Love at First Thumbs Up
February 4, 2022We’ve all been there. You post something on social media and you wait with bated breath for your connections to like or react to it. But sometimes, that doesn’t happen. We’ll discuss why reactions matter, and how you can use them to improve your social media marketing strategy.
Lets Return to the Fundamentals of Social Media!
Do you enjoy getting a thumbs up or a heart reaction on your posts? Guess what? So do your connections. Sometimes we become so caught up in creating our own material that we neglect to appreciate our connections and fans. Consider how you feel when someone responds to your post with a thumbs up or a heart. Even if we don’t want to acknowledge it, on some level, you get happy. But what if someone always gives a nice remark to your content, but your previous one they didn’t? We’re all living in a social media-obsessed culture where a simple like or reaction makes us feel better about ourselves and what we post. It helps to take the sting out of feeling rejected. It’s the same for businesses.
Someone I follow posted “Does my comment or like matter? Like if something happens in your life (birthday, promotion, amazing meal) will my comment make a difference?” The answer is YES! Comments and likes are the social media equivalent of a smile or pat on the back. They show that you’re paying attention, care about what’s being shared, and want to connect with the other person. It’s also a conversation starter when you pass by one another in the market, “hey, I loved your post about your kid; congrats to him!” or “I like that home you posted; is it still available?” It’s a way to connect with friends and businesses, even if you can’t physically be there. Below are some tips on ways you can stay connected and show you care.
Just Hit the Like
The more ways you can react to a post, the better. If a friend shares an opinion or something they care about and you don’t agree, still give them some love and show that you’re listening. This is not just for friends/family posts- your connections want to know that you are paying attention, even if it’s a simple click of a button.
Leave a Quick Comment
If you are watching a live video or someone posts about an event, let them know you’re there for support. Even if it’s something as simple as “good luck!” or “way to go!”. Leaving a comment shows that what they had to say was meaningful enough for you to take the time and write out your thoughts.
Birthday Shout Out!
Social media gives you a pop-up notification for when it’s someone’s birthday. You can enter your own greeting in the text area to wish your friend a happy birthday. If you don’t want to use the supplied text, you can click “Happy Birthday” and it will be completed for you. Take a few moments to let them know that you’re thinking of them on their special day. A few years ago, I received a video birthday greeting from a Realtor that I didn’t know, and I recall it making me feel special.
Share it!
If your connection wrote something you think your audience will enjoy or benefit from, share it! Not only are you sharing valuable content, but you’re also showing that you trust and respect their judgment.
Show Support
If they have a business page, show your support by following them! Not only does this let your connection know that you’re interested in their business, but it also allows you to see what they’re up to.
Making these five suggestions a part of your everyday marketing approach can help you stay on top of your relationships. How about when they are in the market for a new home? You can be sure they will think of you because you’ve taken the time to comment on their posts and liked their photos!
In short, social media marketing is all about being there for your connections. It’s not just about promoting your business, it’s also about building relationships with potential clients. So, next time you see something that looks interesting remember how much your comment or like will mean to them!
